 Remember!

This visa don't allow you to take up any employment in UK. You are allowed to setup your own business.

Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) is for people who are internationally recognized as world leaders or potential world-leading talent in the fields of science and the arts, and who wish to work in the UK. The UK government has limited the number of applications that can be made under Tier 1 (Exceptional talent).

Every initial application must be endorsed by a 'designated competent body'.

The Tier 1 (General) category allows highly skilled people to look for work or self-employment opportunities in the UK. Tier 1 (General) migrants can seek employment in the UK without a sponsor, and can take up self-employment and business opportunities here.

This category is now closed to applicants who are outside the UK, and to migrants who are already here in most other immigration categories.

To find out whether you can make an application under Tier 1 (General), see the Eligibility pages.

Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) is for non-European migrants who want to invest in the UK by setting up or taking over, and being actively involved in the running of, a business or businesses here.

Before you apply, you must read the Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) policy guidance, which you can find on the left side of this page. The policy guidance is based on Part 6A of the Immigration Rules.

You cannot apply under the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category if you are outside the UK.

The Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category allows the UK to retain (non-European) graduates identified by UK higher education institutions as having developed world class innovative ideas or entrepreneurial skills, to extend their stay in the UK after graduation to establish or more businesses in the UK.

The Tier 1 (Investor) category is for high-net-worth individuals who want to make a substantial financial investment in the UK.

You do not need a job offer to apply in this category. We will assess your application based on your ability to invest £1,000,000 in the UK.

The UK provides the ideal location for global companies to thrive. To find out more about the UK offer and how UK Trade & Investment can support your business, visit the UK Trade & Investment website.

The Tier 2 (General) category is for foreign nationals who have been offered a skilled job to fill a gap in the workforce that cannot be filled by a settled worker.

The UK has been welcoming international students to its universities and colleges for many years. In 2008, there were around 1.8 million full-time undergraduate students in higher education, of which over 100,00 were international students.

At all higher education institutions there are people who will support you through the application process, answer any queries you may have, and help you during your time studying in the UK.

A programme of social and cultural events is normally held at most institutions to help international students settle in and make friends. There is also a range of clubs and societies you can join to get involved in the student community and meet new people.
